My Favorite Places in Oregon to Hike

Painted Hills Unit- John Day Fossil Beds National Monument 

Smith Rock State Park, Madras, OR

If there’s one thing I truly miss about Oregon now that I’ve moved back to Texas, it’s all the hiking I used to do.

Honestly, I could easily go on a hike any day of the week where I lived in my college town of Eugene. The other great thing was that hiking spots outside of Eugene weren’t ever too far of a drive as well, all within a few hours driving distance.

Readers, I insist that y’all hike at least one of these spots if you’re ever in Oregon–please!

Thanksgiving on the Coast

There’s nothing quite like homemade apple pie.

Bits and Pieces of the Southern Oregon Coast

 

While on the way to the Redwoods, the gang and I stopped at least five times to chill at the coast and do some quick hikes. It was a bit cold in the beginning of the day (What’s new, Oregon?!) but towards the latter part of the day it turned into perfect coastal weather.

Also, I got to see whales (Orcas at that!) for the first time ever in my life. Near the pod of Orcas we also were able to spot some seals, which just made the trip that more eventful!

A Day at Yachats

 

This past Saturday I went out to Yachats to do some geological field work. Unfortunately, for most of the day lots of the places that I wanted to survey were underwater due to the large swell.

Luckily around noon, though, the swell started to decrease and I was able to get in a few good hours of work along with some awesome wind burn ha.
