Name For You

I’m currently planning a trip back up to my second home–the Northwest–and “Name For You” is by far one of the highlights on the travel playlist that I am making for my trip.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for The Shins, as they were my first ever concert. Their music is simply feel-good music, and I have truly never been in a bad mood while listening to them. This song echoes that feeling and is also just such a great song to have on while driving.

Needless to say, I honestly cannot wait to see what else they have in store for us and the March release of their new album “HEARTWORMS”.

City of Stars

I won’t lie to you–this song has been on repeat for a good while now. It is just such a beautiful, yet simple, piece of music that tends to have an old world feel to it, and I can’t get enough of it.

Though I’ve yet (keyword yet) to see La La Land, I can understand why this song and the movie itself have been nominated (and now received) so many awards.

A 1000 Times

Towards the end of 2016, I was introduced into a lot of good music.

One song that I’ve really been digging is “A 1000 Times” by Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam. It has honestly become one of my go-to driving songs for when I’m out and about or just coming home from work.

With the new year, I am definitely looking forward to discovering more good music.

What are y’all loving right now?

Perfect Illusion

Whether you love her or love to hate her–Lady Gaga is back and at it again!

For those who’ve followed this blog and my ramblings for a while now, you know that I am a fan of the Lady. So of course, I’m quite excited that she is working on a new album, and rumor has it that the wonderful Florence Welch (among many) is collaborating with her on it.

As for “Perfect Illusion”, it’s definitely a song that took a few listens for me to truly get into it. It is catchy, though, and I honestly see it as good workout song for when I hit the treadmill or even for riding around in the car.

You Don’t Get Me High Anymore

Not only do we see a new look for front woman Sarah Barthel of Phantogram but their latest single, which they recently played on The Tonight Show, also has a different sound as well.

I became a fan of Phantogram 3 or so years back when I heard their track “Fall In Love” as I was heading back from a trip to the Klamath Mountains. I loved the dark undertones of their music and how the duo would meld some amazing rhythms set by Josh Carter with with Barthel’s strong vocals producing a very dream pop meet alternative sound.

“You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” still has some dark undertones that I can hear but for some reason I feel it’s a bit more progressive and pop-like than their previous work. However, I am still loving this song and looking forward to what else will be on their new album.

Light of the Seven

For those who have already seen the latest Game of Thrones episode, here is the music behind the King’s Landing scene that demonstrated just how mad the Cersei has become.

To me, it made the scene a tad bit darker and also gave a sense of foreboding–as if you knew someone’s time was up.

I really hope Ramin Djawadi wins some awards for this amazing composition along with the others that were specifically featured this past season.

P.S. Who loved Cersei’s homage to Tywin and all the black leather he wore with her last outfit? I personally thought it made her appear as a Medieval Sith Lord (with the armor pieces and everything).

P.P.S. How amazing was last night’s episode?! I’m still reeling over it. UGH.

I Am A Nightmare

Finally–some brand new Brand New!

Yeah, sorry that was lame but I just had to say it. As I was saying, Brand New is finally releasing their fifth studio album this year and fans (myself included) are excited, because I mean, it’s not like Brand New hasn’t released anything new since Daisy (aka 2009) or anything. *heavy sarcasm*

Needless to say, it’s easy to jump on the hype train for their new album, especially with today’s release of their latest song, “I Am A Nightmare.”

Enjoy!

P.S. I’m really digging Jesse Lacey’s vocals in the beginning of this song and how they’ve changed since their last album.
