How to Help Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

IMG_0412

Hello there!

I know it’s been a while since I last posted, but I have changed jobs and have also started on another chapter of my life. Needless to say–a lot has happened within the last month. This past week or so, though, has been especially crazy and not in a good way.

For those of you who may be checking out my blog for this first time, know that I am a native Houstonian who moved back to the city two years ago after having graduated from college in the Northwest. I am also very proud to be a Houstonian and Texan and love the area that I’ve always called home. Unfortunately, though, this past week has been difficult for us. Hurricane Harvey ravaged the Texas coast this past Friday and then went on to dump a record amount of rain over the Houston area resulting in massive flooding. Never have I seen such damage occur in my life to my hometown.

Fortunately for us, Texas is known as the friendly state so since Day One there have been so many people risking their lives to help one another. From the Coast Guard to the National Guard to the Red Cross to the Cajun Navy to even your neighbor out in his boat, everyone has lent a helping hand to those in need.

However, there is still a great need for money and resources to help those who have been severely affected by Hurricane Harvey and the flooding that came with it. Below, I have listed ways that those in state and out of state can help those who have been affected.

Here’s to getting the word out and remaining #HoustonStrong .

Lovin’ Right Now: H&M’s Autumn Collection Ad

H&M’s latest ad for their Autumn Collection is AMAZING.

Not only does it include women of all ages (props to Hutton for continuing to look gorgeous) but women of all sizes, color, hair style, and orientation. I also love having a cover of Tom Jones’ iconic song “She’s a Lady” playing in the background, giving the classic a modern take on what it is to be a “lady”.

Kudos, H&M. Kudos.

Light of the Seven

For those who have already seen the latest Game of Thrones episode, here is the music behind the King’s Landing scene that demonstrated just how mad the Cersei has become.

To me, it made the scene a tad bit darker and also gave a sense of foreboding–as if you knew someone’s time was up.

I really hope Ramin Djawadi wins some awards for this amazing composition along with the others that were specifically featured this past season.

P.S. Who loved Cersei’s homage to Tywin and all the black leather he wore with her last outfit? I personally thought it made her appear as a Medieval Sith Lord (with the armor pieces and everything).

P.P.S. How amazing was last night’s episode?! I’m still reeling over it. UGH.

Home Envy: HGTV Magazine’s Cover Look

Home Envy--HGTV Magazine Cover-2016

Honestly, when it comes to “me time” I’m such a glutton for a drink, some Wheat Thins, and my favorite HGTV shows. I love love love Fixer Upper and Property Brothers. The home transformations that they do honestly inspire me to have better decor than what I typically buy. Plus, I love to fantasize that one day they can renovate a home for me as well.

My love for HGTV shows transcends towards the HGTV Magazine, too. I usually just buy magazines every now and then at the store but with this one, it’s sent straight to me.

Lately, I’ve been looking into a non-neutral colored couch to invest in, so I’m glad that for the February issue brightly colored decor was featured. It’s really been inspiring me for when I get back to decorating my space again. Below are some of my favorites decor pieces I’ve been looking at, inspired by the HGTV magazine cover look.

Adele Carpool Karoake

I won’t lie, I had yet to see any of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke skits (?) until someone posted this one a few days ago.

I have now watched all of them but this is one is still my favorite. The playful humor and banter is great but of course, it’s Adele’s voice that tops the rest of them. Of course she can sing her own songs, but even when “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls came on there was just so much energy to where you can’t stop watching. And if you’re not living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard that Nicki Minaj even gave Adele props for rapping her verse in Kanye West’s “Monster”as seen here.

Also, thoughts on who could be in Adele’s “squad”?

Christmas Time is Here

Tonight on ABC, A Charlie Brown Christmas 50th Anniversary Special will air at 8 EST/7 CST. The movie itself will begin at 9 EST/8 CST.

Like many, this movie holds lots of memories for my family. Every year, my family and I would watch it as I snuggled up with my stuffed Snoopy. The holiday season somehow just seemed to begin with this movie. As like for whatever reason, it wasn’t really “Christmas time” that year if we didn’t watch it.

One thing’s for sure, my TV will be set on ABC tonight.

Lovin’ Right Now: Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s Latest Duet

As I’ve said before–is there anything Lady Gaga can’t do?!

Barnes & Noble recently released their holiday commercial November 13th, which stars Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett singing a rendition of Frank Loesser’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”.

The video and song easily puts you into the holiday spirit, as well as lusting after Gaga’s black and green outfit.

Here’s to a wonderful holiday season.

Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough’s Argentine Tango

I usually am not one for reality TV unless I’m sick in bed or needing to put something on for background noise as I work on my computer. However, there’s always been one show that I do try to keep up with and that’s Dancing with the Stars.

This season my favorite couple by far is Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough. They always seems so in-sync and both have wonderful personalities. Their latest dance for the Halloween episode was an Argentine Tango and they nailed it. I honestly thought I was watching two professional dancers dance, not just one.

*fingers crossed they win the mirror ball trophy*

Those Ducks Make Me Wanna Shout

A new Nike Football video, featuring the song “Shout”, was just released, which will be the new video played at Autzen Stadium during games. The video is a recreation of the infamous toga party scene from the film “Animal House” that was filmed on location at the University of Oregon, my wonderful alma mater.

In the video we see not only current Oregon players but Oregon alumni such as Ashton Eaton, Marcus Mariota, and Kenny Wheaton to fans like Ty Burrell of “Modern Family”.

Proud to be a duck.<3

Lovin’ Right Now: Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams for New York Times

Sophie Turner + Maisie Williams for NY Times_2 Sophie Turner + Maisie Williams for NY Times Sophie Turner + Maisie Williams for NY Times_1

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or have been avoiding the internet for the past month or so, you know that Season 5 of Game of Thrones premieres on April 12th. Two young women that you’ve surely seen either on a magazine or a late night show are Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, who play Sansa and Arya Stark respectively.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the show series (though I’m a fan of the book series more for certain characters *cough*) and am currently ecstatic that the show is back. I’m also loving the attention that these two young women are getting as both have great acting chops.

P.S. Does anyone know where I can get Maisie Williams’s dress? Love it!
