The duo MGMT, comprised of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, are releasing their third album tomorrow. The self-titled album headed by the song “Alien Days”, which is more electro-pop than indie. VanWyngarden and Goldwasser have always talked of not aiming to produce a pop song like what they did with “Kids” and have since strayed from that sound, starting with their last album Congratulations, which was released in 2010. The combination of a child’s voice in the beginning of “Alien Days” along with the psychedelic sound that winds down leads to you just wanting close your eyes and bob your head along with the song. I mean, at least that is what I started to do while first listening to the song.
Many critics have written negatively of the album, but I’m honestly still really excited to hear the album.
