Wrapped Up in Color

As the owner of a shamrock green coat myself, I personally attest to the wonders of a statement coat. When it’s cold out people aren’t able to see that really cute dress you have on or what have you, but what they can see is your coat.

Sure, wearing a large piece of bright material can be scary. If that’s the case for you, choose a pastel colored coat or one with an interesting pattern. Just mixing it up from the basic black or grey coat will make you stand out from the crowd.

I mean, isn’t that what fashion is all about–being able to stand out in a crowd?

Style to Admire: Gigi Hadid

What I love most about Gigi Hadid’s style is just how attainable it is. Obviously not everyone can pull of leather pants like she can, but we can experiment with leather clothing like she does without needing a Sandra Dee-like makeover.

It really comes down to finding key pieces, like a statement coat, leather jacket, or bright pants, that work with your style and budget.

Suede Up!

Bad pun?

I’ve always loved leather and the sense of empowerment it gives. However, lately I’ve been noticing an understated sensual and empowering quality about suede.

Suede to me just always seemed boho. Now, you can take a suede coat and wrap it up with a belt to create a sexy coat dress look or throw on a suede fringed jacket for edge.

How would you wear suede this upcoming F/W?

Many compare Lily Collins and her style to that of Audrey Hepburn, but I’d like to think that her style would be that of a more modern Hepburn. I love her use of leather, of the top knot, and of the red lip which always seem to do well with polishing off her look.

LAByrinth Theater Company Celebrity Charades 2013 Benefit Gala

Honestly, the woman could pull any type of outfit off. From a green and black leopard print dress to an all-over print jumpsuit to a basic sweater and skirt combo. The one thing that I love about her style, though, would have to be that no matter what she’s wearing she looks comfortable not only with what she’s wearing but in her own skin. She also goes for pieces that are more of the moment but also tends to stick to the classics, which is such a lovely combination. And for that reason, and many others, Rose Byrne is a big time current fashion inspiration for me.

I know, I know… My list and I are a bit late. However, I honestly wanted to see if any dresses from this year’s Academy Awards would make my list. And after watching last night’s I just had to add Charlize to the list. Her dress, and overall look, was just so flawless.

My friends and I dressed up and watched the Oscars together (including the Red Carpet). It definitely is now something I want to plan to do every year with them, as my friends and their commentary got me laughing so hard to where I’d almost ruin my nice dress (which is a good and bad thing…).

I hope all of y’all were able to watch the Academy Award’s this year and enjoyed it just as much as I did!

Have a great rest of the week!

Back Just in Time (..for the New Year)

Well, it definitely has been awhile since I last blogged! I honestly am so glad for the break that I decided to take from Short Sweet and Lovely. However, I really did not think it would last for as long as it did. I’m happy to say that I will be able to blog more during the Winter and it definitely will provide me the “happy space” it originally was meant to be, which during the Winter Term in Oregon is a blessing.

Also, as it being the beginning(ish) of the New Year so with that I must share some of my new favorite things!!

Beanies

This Gap beanie is the perfect accessory, as shown by Laura of On the Racks.

Girls with glasses

I’ve had eye problems since middle school now. Back then and during my first few years of high school, I wore glasses. However, I never really wore them as much as I was supposed to so I switched to contacts. Recently I’ve decided to get glasses another go and just picked them up a few hours ago. Let’s just say I am absolutely loving my new glasses!

It may sound weird to some when women refer to a particular piece of clothing or a certain accessory depicting their personality to a T. However, these glasses really do reflect me (get it? heh heh)! They’re a bit quirky, a bit book-ish and of course have a slight retro feel to them. So yeah, they are pretty damn awesome. (:

Below are some lovely ladies and their adorably framed faces. How cute are they?!

Zooey Deschanel

Sophia Loren

Chloe Sevigny

Anne Hathaway

Definitely should be noted that glasses aren’t just for ‘nerds’ now! Also, if you wanna take a gander at my specs just go to my Instagram account shortnsweetnlovely. I’d love to post some shots of them up here but that takes time and i’ve got two papers due next week (*cringe*).

Have a wonderful weekend y’all! (:

Life, Societal Thoughts

Keep It Classy

To say that a-lot has been going on since I last posted a week ago would be such an understatement. However, now that all of that has come to pass and i’m getting ready for my momma’s arrival here in Oregon, I can finally relax. Oh, and have the ability to say what has been on my mind, which quite frankly has to do with one thing…. Class.

The picture above, to me, depicts what I think every time I see a guy on campus who I believe should rather be on the Jersery Shore (or somewhere like that) than here at the UO. This picture has been circulating Pinterest for a while along with some others that notably speak of class being over swag. I whole-heartedly agree that men should instead be classy than have this supposed “swag”.

For instance, the attitude that guys associate with “swag” and the clothing choices just disgust me and quite frankly, make me want to punch them in the throat. Too violent for ya? First off, put a belt on. Y’all should be mature enough to know that saggy pants are just plain unattractive and the only time someone wants to see what you have on underneath is if they’re getting in bed with you (if you’re lucky enough for that). Period. Also, why has it become so common, and in a way accepted, to openly talk about “big a** titties”? I’m sorry, but y’all are in the library where people are actually trying to study here, and also, I was not the only female nearby to here the way y’all were disgustingly talking about women (which was just plain offensive, by the way).

I grew up off of movies where men and women had class. Watch Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, and you see that Peck’s character does not write the expose-ish article on Hepburn’s character but instead gives her the pictures of her adventure with him. A big reason as to why he chose the higher route comes down to class and having it. Look at the wardrobe worn by the female actresses, designed by the magnificent Edith Head. Never do you see breasts hanging out or an extreme amount of skin showing. The times I go out with my friends, I feel like the other girls I see out wear dresses so short or so tight that it’s useless to even have something covering them up. That or you see the girl who thinks it’s okay to just wear her bra and skirt out. However, something is better than nothing, right?

“What’s sexy about saying ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I got?’ My idea of sexy is less is more.” -Emma Watson

Pretty much, I have come to think that my generation has lost touch with the concept of class. You may or may not agree with me on this, that is your choice. Of course I can blame this all on MTV and its shows like Jersey Shore and all the movies that have come out lately but i’m not going to. What it really comes down to is personal choices. The choice to watch shows like Jersey Shore. The choice to go out and represent yourself in a particular way by either having your breasts out, pants sagging or by just plain making a fool out of yourself. I could rant all I want about this but the only way it’ll change is for better choices to start being made. It’s that plain and simple. Yet, for those who are classy and seem to stay that way–thank you!

So for those out there, remember in the long run class will bring you to better places than “swag” will. Also, those with class have a-lot more respect than those without.

All in all, keep it classy y’all (:
