Lovin’ Right Now: Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palettes

lrn-smashbox-cover-shot-palette

Fate came in for me recently as right around the moment my favorite it! Cosmetics trio of eyeshadows started to become non-existent, Smashbox came out with their new Cover Shot eye palettes.

I LOVE the soft light and matte palettes. They’re perfect for my more minimalistic makeup approach and can easily be intensified with some fitting eyeliner. I also just prefer a softer eye during this time of year, as Houston weather never knows what it wants to do and ends up just driving my sinuses mad. And no one likes a smoky eye look ruined by watery eyes.

Happy Friday!

Give ’em a Little Valentine Lip

DSCN0441

Whether or not you’re you’ll be with your s.o., girlfriends, or family this Valentines Day weekend, a little color on your lips is a necessity. Not only will it perk you up, but I guarantee you that you’ll feel amazing (even if you’re sans a s.o. on this mushy holiday or just not a fan of it).

Obviously a pink or red is normally the way to go, but I favor a little variation and try not to stick to too traditional of a shade. A bubblegum pink lip easily adds a flirty vibe to a look while a blood red lip would certainly add a more passionate vibe, both of these being very appropriate for this weekend.

  1. Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick in Pout ($21 at Sephora). A gorgeous lipstick that provides just the right amount of pop and goes on very smoothly. Goes really well with a fresh face or minimal makeup.
  2. Nars Lipstick in Red Lizard ($28 at Sephora). One of my all time favorite red lipsticks (as previously mentioned in My Top 5 Red Lipsticks post). It works for practically every skin tone and lasts for hours.
  3. MAC Lustre Lipstick in Call the Hairdresser ($17 at stores that sell MAC Cosmetics). All you need is a swipe of this lipstick and you can call it a day. It’s such a no fuss shade that pairs easily with any outfit or season to where I wish I had more than one of it.
  4. Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anna ($32 at Sephora). My most recent purchase at Sephora that has easily become my new favorite lipstick. This matte smoky rose color really plays up your natural lip color and isn’t drying like most matte lipsticks. The price tag is a bit steep but if you’re looking for a semi natural shade, I suggest you give this one a try.

No matter how you’ll be spending this weekend, do so feeling as wonderful as you possibly can. There’s only one of you and you deserve to look and feel good, whether you’re out or just vegging out on the couch watching Netflix and/or romantic comedies.

My Top 5 Red Lipticks

My Top 5 Red Lipsticks-2015

People generally define this time of year by their essentials–Williams & Sonoma’s Peppermint Bark, trips into the Village to explore the shops and lights, a comfy fisherman sweater, a cup of Chai along with a good book, and of course, red lipstick.

Red lips work all year ’round, but for some reason their effect intensifies around the holiday season. The first thing I always notice during the last couple of scenes of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is Beverly D’Angelo’s red lips. And every time the Barnes & Noble ad with Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett airs, my eyes are instantly drawn to Gaga’s red lips (and of course that gorgeous outfit, but let’s not get off track here…).

They’re just an eye catcher and should really be in every woman’s beauty arsenal (if they’re not already). Whether you’re a fan of the classic red, such as Chanel’s Rouge Matte, or tend to go for something a bit quirkier, like Topshop’s Brighton Rock, you can’t go wrong.

Just be sure to find the right one for you.

(Chanel Rouge Matte lipstick (for when I want to feel fancy); Topshop Lips in Brighton Rock (perfect with a fresh face); Red Lizard by Nars (current favorite); Smashbox Fireball Matte lipstick (for when I want to have a Grace Kelly moment); Ruby Woo by MAC (an all-time favorite))

Latest Beauty Haul for Winter

IMG_1478

For me, whenever it gets colder outside the more I get in the mood to play with not just my outfits but also my makeup. Above are four of my current beauty favorites for this wintry season.

  1. Sure sure, red nails and the cold go together like Holly Golightly and Cat. I get it. However, this grey toned nail polish (Chinchilly by Essie) definitely adds an interesting touch. Think of grey nails during winter like white nails during summer.
  2. I love It Cosmetics brushes–especially their eye brushes. So you’d think their eyeshadow would be amazing as well, right? This eye trio does not disappoint (Naturally Pretty Pearl Luxe trio), as the shades are warm and also perfectly compliment my hazel eyes (colors would work wonderfully for those with green eyes as well!).
  3. As seen through previous posts, I love lipstick. It’s by far one of my favorite ways to perk up a look and with just one swipe your whole mood can be turned around. Though, with as much as I’ve invested in lipstick wise, I had yet to get a lip liner. What I love most about this one by Clinique (Lipblush) is that the shade is close to my natural lip color so I can use it with just about all of my shades of lipstick.
  4. Speaking of lipstick–I’m loving this new Smashbox one (Pout) I picked up at Sephora the other day. The light pink color is definitely a tamer version of my NARS hot pink lipstick and can even be worn to work. I also love how it looks when paired with a more neutral face and outfit–giving your look just the right amount of oomph.

What are some of your winter beauty faves?

Winter Beauty: Tried and True

Screen Shot 2014-11-10 at 12.29.30 PM

Winter in the NW can go from 4os and raining to below freezing and snowing. There are so many days where the best pick me up can honestly be spritzing on some perfume or putting some color on your nails and/or lips.

The weather also loves to wreck havoc on my skin, especially my face and hands which go from their normally oily selves to sensitive once the cold hits. I love Philoshophy’s Hands of Hope cream because it doesn’t irritate my skin like so many other brands and it also has a nice clean smell. Smashbox Photo Finish primer is perfect for my skin as it’s oil-free and has more of a gel base so it’s not too cakey like some primers can be.

Also, for those who have to combat the winter rains like I do, Tarte’s Light Camera Splashes mascara is a must! I love the fact that it’s a waterproof mascara that does not compromise as it’s comb still thickens my lashes ever so nicely.
