Looking Back on 2017

From my first ever solo trip to Seattle (a place I’ve never been to, no less!) to trying to expand and play with my personal style to Hurricane Harvey to the Astros winning the World Series–this year has been a crazy one!

Below are some of my favorite moments and photos from this past year. So thanks to everyone who I got to spend this crazy year, and thank you to Joybird and many other retailers for giving me all the design inspiration that I need for my new place.

Cheers to a new year!

Shades of Blue

Being a big fan of just about any shade of blue, I just had to have this super cute Escapada top. Besides the gorgeous blue colors, this top also has a fun tassel fringe bottom. I also love how well it paired with these white Target chino shorts, that I’ve been practically living in lately, and these Charming Charlie tassel earrings for a fun Fourth of July outfit.

What are some fun pieces that y’all are loving lately?

P.S. I apologize for being absent from Short Sweet and Lovely for the past few weeks–things have just been a bit crazy for me as of late!

Classic Navy Sheath Dress

Y’all, I am loving this sheath dress that I picked up a few weeks ago on super sale at Stein Mart. Yes, you read that right. I bought this dress at Stein Mart and am super proud of that fact. Honestly, who wouldn’t be after saving close to 100 dollars?!

As far as the dress itself goes, I love the classic navy/white color palette and the style of it. I normally don’t go for a sheath style dress but from the first moment I put this on in the dressing room, I knew it was a perfect fit. It’s hard enough finding a dress at such a great price, but finding one that is fitted for someone with some curves and that hits just above the knee is nothing short of a miracle.

Kudos, Stein Mart. Kudos.

Weekend Wear + A Hand-beaded Clutch

If there is one clutch that I have fallen hard for this summer, it is the Azteca Beaded Clutch by Gretchen Scott. I love the colors that were used, the pattern, the size, and the fact that it is hand beaded.

Honestly, with this gorgeous clutch, you can dress up a simple top (like what I did) or complement a lovely dress. Y’all know I am all about pieces that are versatile and this clutch definitely fits in that category.

Blessington Farms

I spent this past weekend pretending that Fall actually exists in my area by going out to a pumpkin patch west of Houston with one of my girlfriends, because it’s honestly a bit tough to live near the Gulf Coast and see photos of changing leaves galore all over the internet.

Amazingly enough, though, it actually didn’t start getting warm until about noon (lately it’ll be in the 80s come 9 am), so this little outing ended up being super enjoyable. Also, I picked out a real winner and have already started figuring out what I’m going to carve into her. Hint: it’s going to be a based off of a *magical* series that really impacted my childhood and teen years…and still impacts me today haha

Oh! Also, since having gone out to said pumpkin patch there has been talk of not just one but two cool fronts to come our way down here in the Houston area. Eeeek! I’m so excited for *real* fall weather to come.

Happy Fall!

P.S. Sorry for the iPhone quality photos–I somehow forgot my Nikon at home! :O

Comfy and Casual for the 4th

2016 4th of july outfit

Here in Texas, the heat index is hitting the triple digits and there’s (of course) some lingering humidity.

So let’s be realistic, most Texas women (myself included) will not be dressed to the nines this 4th of July. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone dressed up that much on this particular holiday as that’s just not what happens.

One of the reasons I’ve always loved celebrating the 4th, besides hanging out by the water, the food, and the fireworks, of course, is that it’s such a casual holiday. A holiday that’s really just about relaxing and feeling good as we celebrate our day of independence.

Wishing y’all a happy 4th!

My Top 10 Interview Pieces

Interviewing is a tough enough experience already without having to worry about your outfit. I have always worn a more classic silhouette with some modern touches as I work in a more conservative industry.

Obviously if you work in a less conservative industry you can mix it up a bit more, but I still believe when interviewing it’s best to stick to classics like a black blazer or sheath dress. Also, take note of your accessories and makeup. A bold lip or a chunky necklace is great on the weekend or for a night out, but not always the wisest choice when interviewing.

Again, you can always vary your look depending on the industry you are interviewing for, so know that there are no concrete pieces you “must” have. And of course just remember to wear something that you feel comfortable in as an interviewer will notice your comfort level right off the bat.

Top 10 Interview Pieces-2016

  1. Alice + Olivia Pussy Bow Blouse ($165)
  2. J Crew Thompson Blazer in Black ($178)
  3. Sam Edelman Petty Booties ($135)
  4. Cardinal Trousers at Anthropologie ($148)
  5. Kate Spade Cedar Street Maise ($298)
  6. Lorgnon Necklace at Anthropologie ($48)
  7. Formula X Color Curators: Song of Style Edition Nail Polish in A Girl’s Best Friend ($12.50)

*For those who are still currently attending a university, stores such as Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor LOFT, and J Crew offer student discounts if you show them your Student ID. When I was a student I’d ask any store if they offered a student discount, as they really do help on pieces with a higher price tag.
