My Review of Native Deodorant

One thing that I have been doing over the past few years is switching over to more natural products when it comes to my makeup and skincare. I have always been wary of what I put in my body, which is probably why I haven’t had McDonalds in I don’t know how many years ha, but never really focused on what I was putting on my body until more recently. Funnily enough, I found out that the skin is extremely absorbent and whatever you use on it generally ends up in your bloodstream. How crazy is that?!

With that in mind, I started switching to paraben, phthalate, and aluminum free products. Then last August I saw a post on Facebook that a friend of mine wrote about a natural deodorant she had been using for months and how it was the best that she had ever used. I immediately messaged her asking about it in more detail and what all she recommended for a first time user.

A little over six months later and here I am writing a Wellness Wednesday post on that very same product, Native Deodorant. I mean, I love this deodorant, y’all. Yes, it does take some time getting used to it as it is a deodorant and not an antiperspirant like most products out there on the shelves. You will also definitely sweat more than you usually do, especially during the first month or so. However, it is worth it as I stink less when I sweat and it does not irritate my skin after shaving like some of the others would. Plus, all the ingredients are natural and you actually know what they are, which is something I think we can all agree on that is awesome.

The one thing I would suggest to those who are fairly warm bodied like myself, though, is to make sure that you wear loose tops when working out and immediately shower/bathe after your work out. As previously mentioned, it is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so you are going to sweat a bit more. Leaving your workout clothes on for too long is only going lead to clogged pores and/or heat rash if you just sweated buckets, so please take caution. This advice does not apply to just Native products but any sort of natural deodorant, so do be sure to always have good hygiene. I mean, we all know that juice or latte can wait until after you get clean.

**This post is not sponsored, I just really like Native Deodorant and highly recommend it to all my readers out there as it is formulated for men and women.

Top 5 Things in My Fall Makeup Bag

dscn0527

1.Butter London Nail Polish in British Racing Green– I love this color for when I want to step away from my tried and true shades (aka neutrals and red). It’s perfect for fall as the color is a nice hunter green and it has great staying power.

2. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella–Scarlet red in color, this lip pencil and lipstick in one crayon has a great matte finish and doesn’t dry out your lips. I also love that this color in particular can be worn by a variety of people with different skin tones and still look amazing on. Also, the size of it is wonderful as it can easily travel with you no matter the size of your purse.

3. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whiskey–This eye pencil is a lovely, rich brown matte color that really makes my hazel eyes pop. I also love how long it lasts, as well as how easy it is to apply. I’ve never done that well with liquid eyeliner due to the application of it, so an eyeliner like this one is exactly what I need.

4. Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette–This palette is a-ma-zing! I honestly love the shades that come in this smaller palette and how often I can use them. It also is great for daytime wear/work, as the shades are both matte and neutral. I love pairing a few of the shades with my Urban Decay pencil for a more natural look and then adding some oomph with a bold lip.

5. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara–A while back I got the O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara by Marc Jacobs as a sample from Sephora (and loved it), but I wanted to opt for something a little more toned down, which led me to purchasing this particular mascara. I love how it adds volume to my long lashes without making them look too grand. It also is really long lasting and even though it’s not water proof, I have been able to walk through a bit of rain with it on and didn’t end up looking like a raccoon (success!).

Summer Skin

DSCN0496

For years I used the Clarisonic face wash and mask that went with my Clarisonic Mia 2 brush.

However, with having moved back to the Houston area this past year, I noticed that neither the face wash or mask were working as well as they did when I lived in Oregon. This was due to my skin having changed a little since moving and also because of living in a more humid and polluted environment.

So after noticing this, I did what I do best–I researched dozens of products, read the product testimonies, and even tried a select few to gauge the results for myself. I eventually decided on two Origins products that seemed to combat the acne and oil that my skin deals with during the summer here–the Out of Trouble mask and Zero Oil face wash.

If your skin also breaks out and tends to get quite oily, I fully recommend you try these products. They have been working so well for weeks now, and I love how my skin feels after using them.

Favorite Nail Polishes for Spring

DSCN0442Last week it got up in the 90s here in Texas, which prompted me to head straight to my favorite nail salon to get my pedi on. Spring, though, is an interesting season, as it can go from being in the 90s to the 60s easily (as we’ve seen here this last week).

I definitely am one to coordinate the color of not only my lipstick but my nail polish as well, to my outfits. With that in mind, I love having a range of colors on hand from lilac to green to hot pink to a berry when the weather can change so drastically from day to day.

Give ’em a Little Valentine Lip

DSCN0441

Whether or not you’re you’ll be with your s.o., girlfriends, or family this Valentines Day weekend, a little color on your lips is a necessity. Not only will it perk you up, but I guarantee you that you’ll feel amazing (even if you’re sans a s.o. on this mushy holiday or just not a fan of it).

Obviously a pink or red is normally the way to go, but I favor a little variation and try not to stick to too traditional of a shade. A bubblegum pink lip easily adds a flirty vibe to a look while a blood red lip would certainly add a more passionate vibe, both of these being very appropriate for this weekend.

  1. Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick in Pout ($21 at Sephora). A gorgeous lipstick that provides just the right amount of pop and goes on very smoothly. Goes really well with a fresh face or minimal makeup.
  2. Nars Lipstick in Red Lizard ($28 at Sephora). One of my all time favorite red lipsticks (as previously mentioned in My Top 5 Red Lipsticks post). It works for practically every skin tone and lasts for hours.
  3. MAC Lustre Lipstick in Call the Hairdresser ($17 at stores that sell MAC Cosmetics). All you need is a swipe of this lipstick and you can call it a day. It’s such a no fuss shade that pairs easily with any outfit or season to where I wish I had more than one of it.
  4. Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anna ($32 at Sephora). My most recent purchase at Sephora that has easily become my new favorite lipstick. This matte smoky rose color really plays up your natural lip color and isn’t drying like most matte lipsticks. The price tag is a bit steep but if you’re looking for a semi natural shade, I suggest you give this one a try.

No matter how you’ll be spending this weekend, do so feeling as wonderful as you possibly can. There’s only one of you and you deserve to look and feel good, whether you’re out or just vegging out on the couch watching Netflix and/or romantic comedies.

January’s Beauty Haul

IMG_1715

I’ve always been interested in makeup since I was in high school, but I never had really gotten to the point of wanting to explore various brands and techniques until I met my college roommate Claire. Now, I will more than likely never be as passionate about makeup as some, but I am really starting to appreciate the look of a product and seeing how it can help boost a person’s mood that day.

I won’t ever be one to tell someone they have to wear makeup to look and feel good because to each their own. However, sometimes a swipe of mascara or lipstick or freshly painted nails can really do the trick in boosting those endorphins (sorry exercise, you’re not the only one to do that).

And with that, I will be making beauty posts more frequently that include my most recent purchases along with beauty fads I love currently.

Happy FriYay!

  1. (Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Perfume, $60 for 1 oz. at Sephora)  Back in November, I got a free sample of this perfume at Sephora to see how it would smell on me not just on the store but outside of it as well. I ended up having to use it so sparingly towards the end as I just loved the sweet yet musky smell so much. With notes of Vanilla, Violet, and Sandalwood, this scent has become my go to for the cooler months and nights out.
  2. (Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist’s Palette, $55 at Sephora) I have always been a fan of taupe and purple colored eyeshadows. They work wonderfully with my hazel eyes as the shades bring out the flecks of gold or even make the green in them pop more so. With this palette, I love how easy it is to blend the shadows. There’s also a great selection of matte shadows in the palette as well as shimmery shadows, which can sometimes be hard to find.
  3. (Formula X #ColorCurators: Song of Style Edition Nail Polish in A Girl’s Best Friend, $12.50 at Sephora) I love how easy Formula X’s nail polishes go on and how long they last. Put on two coats and you’re good for a week at least. The colors for this particular collaboration are also extremely wearable and I especially love A Girl’s Best Friend. The blush shade can work with your F/W outfits as well as your S/S ones.
  4. (Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, $26 at Sephora) When it comes to mascara, I generally stick to one and never really branch out. For years I’ve been using Benefit’s They’re Real! Lengthening & Voluminizing Mascara. As much as I loved it, I would still have clumping issues so I then switched to Clinique’s High Impact Mascara where I still would get lashes clumping. Recently, though, I got this Marc Jacobs mascara as an awards freebie from Sephora and instantly loved it after the first use. It defines my lashes so well and truly lengthens them, which other mascaras have never been able to do. I also have had no clumping issues after having used it for a week or so–yay!

My Top 5 Red Lipticks

My Top 5 Red Lipsticks-2015

People generally define this time of year by their essentials–Williams & Sonoma’s Peppermint Bark, trips into the Village to explore the shops and lights, a comfy fisherman sweater, a cup of Chai along with a good book, and of course, red lipstick.

Red lips work all year ’round, but for some reason their effect intensifies around the holiday season. The first thing I always notice during the last couple of scenes of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is Beverly D’Angelo’s red lips. And every time the Barnes & Noble ad with Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett airs, my eyes are instantly drawn to Gaga’s red lips (and of course that gorgeous outfit, but let’s not get off track here…).

They’re just an eye catcher and should really be in every woman’s beauty arsenal (if they’re not already). Whether you’re a fan of the classic red, such as Chanel’s Rouge Matte, or tend to go for something a bit quirkier, like Topshop’s Brighton Rock, you can’t go wrong.

Just be sure to find the right one for you.

(Chanel Rouge Matte lipstick (for when I want to feel fancy); Topshop Lips in Brighton Rock (perfect with a fresh face); Red Lizard by Nars (current favorite); Smashbox Fireball Matte lipstick (for when I want to have a Grace Kelly moment); Ruby Woo by MAC (an all-time favorite))
